Growing up in Iran, Roya Javaherchi loved snacking on the sweet treats her grandmother made with dates. She’d stuff them with nuts, dust them with pistachio powder or coconut flakes, and drizzle them with chocolate. Perhaps that’s why, when studying food science in college, Javaherchi began dreaming up the concept for her O.C.-based company, Dateolate, which teams rich California dates with dark chocolate.
